SOUTH BEND — Richard Harold Miller, residing in South Bend, passed away peacefully at 5:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2014 in his home, two days after his 71st birthday.
He was born Sept. 21, 1943 in Marshall County, a son of Raymond and Erma (Hygema) Miller, and has lived in the Lakeville-South Bend area all of his life.
Mr. Miller retired in 2006 from A.M. General Corp where he was employed for 31 years.

ETNA GREEN — Mrs. Glenda Sue Killian, 72, of Etna Green, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2014 at 7:15 p.m. in her home in the care of her family and Hospice.
Glenda was born Feb. 19, 1942 at Garrett, Ky. to Elcaney and Mary (Morgan) Patrick.
She had been a resident of Etna Green the past 10 years. Glenda was a homemaker and had worked at R.R. Donnelly and Sons of Warsaw. An important part of her life was her membership at the Etna Green United Methodist Church and her family.

Etna Green boil advisory lifted

ETNA GREEN — A boil water advisory for Etna Green water customers was issued on Monday, Sept. 22.
Since then the water distribution problem has been corrected.
Bacteriological samples have been collected from representative sites of the affected area and tested. The test results were satisfactory and it is no longer necessary to boil the water.

South Bend weather alert system operational after delay

MARSHALL COUNTY — On Sept. 18, the South Bend NOAA Weather Radio that broadcasts the signal to NOAA radios across the area went dark when a communications fiber optic cable was cut and six days later problems still persist.

But the loss of signal for six days presents the wider problem of what to do when communications come down, especially when the method used, weather radios, are the primary source for information in an area. This is the second time in September that the NOAA signal has become disconnected.

Area teams get set for Week 6

CULVER — John Glenn will get a different look on defense as the team takes on Culver Military Academy on the road this week. But rather than feeling stressed about it, the Falcons are excited.
“We think they’re going to try to throw the ball 25 to 40 times, and we’ve not experienced that yet this year,” said Glenn head coach Dave Sharpe. “We’ve been working like crazy with our defensive secondary and our linebackers with our pass coverages. It’s going to be a fun game.”

He was born on Aug. 2, 1951 in Mishawaka to the late Kenneth and Norma (Fox) Houston.

HODGKINS, Ill. — Marguriete (Margie) Jones, 90, of Hodgkins, Ill. passed away peacefully Sept. 16, 2014, at LaGrange Memorial Hospital in LaGrange, Ill. Margie was born on Jan. 14, 1924 in Redmond, Ore. to Benjamin and Esther (Coburn) Mason. She graduated from Madras High School in Madras, Ore. in 1942. On Jan. 24, 1943 she was married to Lewis Jones at the Portland Army Air Base in Portland, Ore. They were married for 65 years before Lewis passed on Oct. 8, 2008. Margie was a homemaker who loved to sew, quilt and do crafts.

Jefferson Street at Beerenbrook closing tomorrow night

PLYMOUTH — Construction crews will close Jefferson Street at Beerenbrook at 10 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 25.

The road will reopen by morning.

The crews have to dig under the roadway for the stormwater project underway in that area.

The detour route will be Jefferson Street at Fifth Street to Harrison Street to 8th Street and back to Jefferson.

Making meth in a shed?

PLYMOUTH — A 26-year-old Plymouth man was arrested Friday and charged with conspiracy to manufacture methamphetamine after Plymouth Police officers searched a utility shed behind his residence.

According to the press release issued Monday, Adam Lolmaugh, who lives in the 1600 block of Michigan Street, was observed entering a shed behind his residence and placing a plastic bag in a cooler.

The suspect engaged officers in conversation. When officers secured permission to search the shed, they allegedly discovered a meth lab.
