County police investigating report of police impersonator

MARSHALL COUNTY — The sheriff's office is investigating a report of a possible police impersonator, based on a report from Aug. 16.

In the press release, police said the incident occurred at about 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 16 on Plymouth-Goshen Trail south of US 30 just outside of PLymouth.

The Marshall County Police received a report of a possible Police Impersonator. There has been only one incident reported which occurred on Saturday, August 16th, 2014, around 5:30pm on Plymouth-Goshen trail south of US30 just outside of Plymouth.

Lakeville farmer okay after lightning strike

LAKEVILLE — A Lakeville resident was given a fright when lightning struck near him while he was working on his farm on Aug. 26.

Phil Shafer, 51, was working on a Bobcat skid loader when at 10:54 a.m., lightning struck near the implement.

“We took out a first responder unit, an EMT ambulance, and paramedic ambulance that went. We had a whole team of people there in case you need them,” said Mike Hargreaves, a firefighter and EMT with the Lakeville Volunteer Fire Department.

Hargreaves reported that Shafer awake and talking before he was taken to the hospital.

US HIghway 31 named in memory of late state legislator

LAKEVILLE — A former State Representative’s memory was recognized at the ribbon cutting for the new US 31 highway that stretches from the 20 bypass in South Bend and goes to US 30 near Plymouth.

The new piece of highway is estimated to save Hoosiers 30 minutes driving time when US 31 is fully completed in 2015.
Among the VIPS were Governor Mike Pence and U.S. Representative Jackie Walorski, as well as the late Representative’s widow and other sons and daughters. The lawmaker’s name now graces a portion of US 31 as the Richard W. Mangus Memorial Highway,

Blueberry Festival parking fee increasing

PLYMOUTH — An increase in the price of parking at the Plymouth High School during the Blueberry Festival could bring in as much $15,000-$20,000 over last year’s total of $40,364. Those parking at Plymouth High School this year will pay $8, up from $5. This is the first price increase since 1993.

The parking lots and grassy areas at PHS have been used since the 1980’s as the official parking for the festival. However, it wasn’t until 1992 that the organizers began keeping data. In the past 21 years, the official parking during the festival has brought in $525,000.

DuPont Pioneer celebrates 25 years

PLYMOUTH — Wednesday DuPont Pioneer in Plymouth celebrated their 25th anniversary in Plymouth.
Special guest speakers included the Director of Indiana State Department of Agriculture Ted McKinney and Indiana Governor Mike Pence.

“Plymouth has a very unique growing area,” said Mark Letsinger, production location manager of the Plymouth Pioneer facility. “The great lakes provide a tempered climate which is very beneficial to growing seed corn as well as other specialty crops.”
