Plymouth awards bids for street repairs

PLYMOUTH — Sidewalk projects totaling almost $100,000 and road repairs expected to cost about $350,000 were awarded by the Plymouth Board of Works this week.

MUNCIE — Gerald M. Hess, age 97, of Muncie and formerly of Argos died April 15, 2014 in the Westminster Village Nursing Home. He had been in declining health for the past year.

ST. JOHN — Phyllis J. Bender, 86, formerly of the Schererville area, passed away at 9:06 a.m. on Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at the Golden Living Nursing Home, Merrillville.
Born to Leo and Ilo Marie (Brewer) Sickmiller on April 28, 1927, Phyllis grew up in Plymouth. She graduated from Plymouth High School in 1945.
Phyllis married Kenneth LeRoy Bender in Plymouth on Oct. 4, 1947. The couple moved to the St. John/Schererville area, where they would make their home for more than 50 years. He would precede her in death on Dec. 4, 1976.

Bremen rallies to beat Plymouth 7-4

PLYMOUTH — It was entirely too much Eric Knepper for Plymouth’s Pilgrims as the Bremen senior pitched and hit his team to a come from behind win at Bill Nixon Field on Wednesday night.
Knepper was 3-for-4 with a triple three RBI’s and a run scored at the plate and struck out five before leaving with two outs in the bottom of the seventh to take the win on the mound. Bremen reliever Bryce Cassel came on to record the final out and the save with the bases loaded in the seventh.

Bremen suffers setback
Bremen suffered an 8-3 setback in softball action versus Mishawaka Wednesday in Bremen.
Chelsea Huppert took the loss inside the circle, giving up eight runs off 13 hits lasting four innings for the Lady Lions.
Emily Molden tripled and homered on her way to three hits for Bremen in the loss.

PLYMOUTH — Mike McFarland, 59, of Plymouth died on Saturday, Feb. 22, 2014. He was born in Burr Oak on Feb. 18, 1955 to the late Robert (Burr Head) and Phebe C. (Aley) McFarland.
He was a retired Water, Wastewater Superintendent and a Supervisor at Donnite Corp. until it closed. He worked hard along side his father (Burr Head) teaching 4-H, shooting sports, care and upkeep of the equipment. As well as a Hunter Education Instructor. Mike was a standing member of NRA, NIOA, AWWA, and IWEA.
