2015 county budget requests under review

MARSHALL COUNTY — How the county's $8,725,243 budget shapes out is still undecided, but county council members heard from department heads about what is needed.

The General Fund budgets for all departments totaled $9,041,321. The council now has the daunting task of determining where to cut $316,078 from the budgets.

ARGOS — Robert “Bob” Alan Shafer, 61, of Argos died Aug. 15, 2014 at 11:07 p.m. at Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, Plymouth following injuries sustained in a bicycle accident.
He was born Jan. 6, 1953 in Plymouth to Ralph Adam Shafer and Berniece Ann (Boyd) Shafer. He has lived in the Argos community all of his life.
On Sept. 1, 2013 in Argos, he married Vickie (O’Connor) Shafer.
He was self-employed working SGS Eco Systems with Heating and Cooling.

Storms headed this way

MARSHALL COUNTY — A strong line of thunderstorms are moving east toward Marshall County, according to the National Weather Service.

The line of storms extends from Walkerton to six miles south of Knox and is moving about 35 miles per hour.

New offender monitoring system coming soon

MARSHALL COUNTY — Devices that will instantly measure an offender’s blood alcohol level will be utilized in Marshall County.

Ward Byers, Court Services, brought a contract before the Marshall County Commissioners for their approval. The contract is for alcohol monitoring with BI Corporation.

Scammers use local company's check to commit mail fraud

BOURBON — Faulkner Fabricating, a company out of Bourbon recently learned that a third party has been mailing out fraudulent checks to people across the country.

“It started out Thursday last week,” said Paula Johnson, an employee of the company. She received a call from a man who resided in Toledo, Ohio.

“He told me the check number and it didn’t match up with the run,” she said. “It had the routing number, account number, and our address.”

But the checks had left off the phone number for Faulkner Fabricating.

City budget totals $11.6 million

PLYMOUTH — The 2015 proposed budget totals $11.61 million and includes increases to cover the cost of elections, fire hydrant fees, a new computer system and employee insurance.

Toni Hutchings, clerk-treasurer for the city, said these items are included in the money to be allocated to the financial board and clerk treasurer - $980,744 - which is a 10.97 percent increase from last year.

ETNA GREEN — Florabelle Tribalski of Etna Green passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, Aug. 16, 2014. Florabelle was 85 years old.
Florabelle was born on Feb. 11, 1929 to Ellsworth and Mabel (Vandermark) Bishop at Plymouth. Florabelle was raised by her foster parents, Richie and Nellie Harman. She had been a resident of the Etna Green area since 1943.

FRANKFORT — Martha O. Mason, 90, of Frankfort died Aug. 15, 2014 at St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis.
She was born Nov. 14, 1923 in Clinton County to the late Walter William and Bertha (Collins) Bear.
She married Ellis L. Mason on May 24, 1946 in Frankfort and he preceded her in death on Dec. 28, 1996.

PLYMOUTH — Suellen Redhawk, 65, of Plymouth, passed away Thursday, Aug. 14, 2014, at Pilgrim Manor Nursing Home, in Plymouth. 
Suellen was born on March 24, 1949, in Plymouth, Glenn and Iva (Wamsley) Benson. She moved to Michigan and three years ago returned to Plymouth. She had worked as a waitress for several years.

HAMLET — Pauline M. Krick, 96, of Winona Lake, formerly of Hamlet, passed away Friday, Aug. 15, 2014 at Grace Village Retirement Community, Winona Lake.
Pauline was born Sept. 2, 1917 near Hamlet, a daughter of the late Roy Shankland and Edna Hardesty Shankland.
In 1935 she graduated from Grovertown High School. Shortly after graduation she married John A. Blad Sr. of Grovertown. He preceded her in death in 1946. In 1947 she married Thomas “Tim” H. Krick, who also preceded her in death.
