NAPPANEE — Helen Virginia Buss, 95, of Nappanee, died at 4:22 p.m., Tuesday, March 8, 2011 at Elkhart General Hospital.
She is survived by a son, Roger (Mary) Buss, Walkerton, grandson, Robert R. Phillip (Renee) Buss, Kendallville, and great grandson, Aidan Buss, Kendallville.  She was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Chase and brothers, Roy, Paul, and Milburn Roelke.
Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee.
An Eastern Star Memorial Service will take place at 8 p.m.

MISHAWAKA — Carol Suzanne "Sue" Shanafelt, 65, residing in Mishawaka, passed away at 6 p.m. Monday, March 7, in the Emergency Room at St. Vincent Heart Center, Indianapolis.
She was born July 1, 1945 in South Bend, a daughter of Elmer L. and Ernestine M. (Stegmann) Shanafelt, and has lived in this area all of her life. She graduated from John Adams High School class of 1963.

CULVER — June Shepard, 85, of Culver, passed away March 6, 2011 at Miller’s Merry Manor in Culver.
June was born in Medaryville, Ind. June 7, 1925 to parents Harry Byers and Mabel (Anderson) Byers, who preceded her in death. 
June retired from Culver Academies, where she worked in the Food Service Department. She was a member of the Culver VFW Ladies Auxiliary and Wesley United Methodist Church.

PLYMOUTH — Mildred E. Thompson Books, 96, passed away Monday, March 7, 2011 at 9:18 a.m. in the St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Plymouth, due to natural causes. Mildred was a former Lawrence Lake resident now living at the River Park community.
Born Jan. 5, 1915 in Walton, Ind., she was the daughter of Howard Allen and Mary Edith (Lambert) Snider. The family moved to Plymouth in 1925 and although she attended school here, she spent her senior year in Walton and graduated from Young America School in 1933.

PLYMOUTH – Kenneth Paul Baumgartner, 79, a Lawrence Lake resident since 2001, died of natural causes at his home Tuesday morning, March 8, 2011. Ken was formerly of Tinley Park, Ill.
He was born the son of Arthur Phillip and Elizabeth Charlotte (Mueller) Baumgartner in Hammond, Ind. March 29, 1931. There he received his education, graduating from Thornton Township High School in 1949.
In 1951 he joined the Marine Corp and served as a Corporal until 1953.

SOUTH BEND — Virginia May (Bachtel) Miller, passed away peacefully, Feb. 22, 2011, six days before her 91st birthday, at home with her daughter, son-in-law, and her faithful K-9 companion Buddy.
She was born Feb. 28, 1920, in South Bend, Ind., the daughter of Vernon O. and Edith (Dawson) Bachtel.  She is remembered for her independence, dignity and desire to succeed. She strove to pass these characteristics on to her children.

COLUMBIA CITY — Robert L. Adams, 93, of Sebring, Fla. died March 3, 2011. He had lived at the Palms of Sebring and was receiving Good Shepherd Hospice Care.
He was born in Van Buren Township, Putnam County, Ohio to Virgil and Ruth Adams. The family moved to Indiana in 1927 and Robert graduated from LaPaz High School, Lapaz, Ind. in 1935.

MICHIGAN CITY — Mr. Herbert L. “Red” Gaddis Sr., age 80, of Michigan City, Ind. and formerly of Walkerton, Ind, died Saturday, March 5, 2011 peacefully in his sleep at St. Anthony Memorial Health Center.
The funeral service will be Tuesday, March 9, at 11 a.m. at Carlisle Funeral Home, Michigan City.
Visitation will be Monday from 3 to 7 p.m. and Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the service.
Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Walkerton.
