Beerenbrook Road drain repairs bid awarded at $412,067

PLYMOUTH — The storm sewer drain project at Beerenbrook and Jefferson Street will begin soon. Haskins Underground was awarded the bid at Monday evening's city of Plymouth Board of Public Works meeting. The project is expected to be completed this fall.
Also discussed in the meeting was Fire Chief Rod Miller reported the total monthly incidents and a request for EMT services. Read all the details in today's Pilot News.

Family day at the park fun for all

PLYMOUTH — The Coca-Cola Family Day brought hundreds of visitors to the Young Amphitheater on Saturday. The annual event featured face painting, live music, a sprinkler, K-9 officer John Weir and Jax and hot dogs and coke products among other activities.The free event was a lot of fun for children and families. Livestock outlawed in city limits

PLYMOUTH — The city of Plymouth Common Council met Monday evening in regular session. The council passed ordinance 2014-2079 in reference to keeping livestock within city limits being unlawful. In addition the council also approved 2015 salaries for the mayor, clerk-treasurer and council members. Full details in today's Pilot News.

Fresh look at Earthworks

PLYMOUTH — Earthworks market reopened Tuesday morning after a being closed for two weeks.
The market was closed to allow staff time to do some rearranging, reorganizing and get ready for new product. The market is more self-serve friendly now making it easier for customers to access bulk and/ or refrigerated items. The bulk selection will be expanded to include a larger selection of items.

US Highway 31 opening expected next month

MARSHALL COUNTY — Frustrated motorists traveling north and south along US Highway 31 will receive a break in their driving excursions when the new road between South Bend and Plymouth opens in late August.
According to Matt Deitchley, media relations director for the Laporte INDOT district, there is no definitive date for the opening of the new bypass.
“Things are moving along. We had a hard winter and the frozen ground changed our schedule,” he explained, stating that while construction was not delayed it was extended.
There are some minor restrictions to be expected.

Superintendent contract approved at Triton Schools

BOURBON – Triton School Superintendent Donna Burroughs was rewarded with positive comments during a public hearing on her new contract prior to the regular School Board meeting Monday night.
Observations from Board members and administrators present affirmed her work and leadership of the school corporation. The public hearing was preceded by an executive session in which the Board conducted a self-evaluation.

County emergency plan changes tabled

MARSHALL COUNTY — An updated emergency plan for Marshall County was submitted to the Commissioners Monday morning. The commissioners did not approve the changes to the plan.
“I am here today to talk to you about adopting a new county comprehensive emergency management plan. This is based on recommendations from the EMA advisory council as a result of an after action report and improvement plan from the blizzard and snow events that occurred this past winter,” said Clyde Avery, Marshall County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) director.
