Yeo powers Trojans to title

March 11, 2013

BOURBON — At some point during Clay Yeo’s otherworldly third quarter, the Triton student section started chanting, “You can’t stop him.”
True? Sure. A gross oversimplification of said truth? Absolutely. Then again, “You’re entirely helpless to in any way moderate the influence of this man among boys upon this regional championship game,” while more specific, lacks the snappy cadence of, “You can’t stop him.”

Day of drama falls short of Hollywood ending for Plymouth

March 11, 2013

PLYMOUTH — A day of classic storylines fell short of a storybook ending for Plymouth as the Pilgrims fell to Andrean (22-3) by a 70-60 final in overtime in the Plymouth Regional championship game Saturday night.
The big story line was of the team that refused to go away with Plymouth trailing for much of the game and living to play overtime on an epic 3-point buzzer beater by Joe Knapp that capped an unlikely comeback.

Lancers’ run ends versus Bowman

March 11, 2013

NORTH JUDSON — A week after it ended a 27-year sectional championship drought, LaVille entered the Class 2A North Judson Regional with the hope of bringing home its first-ever regional championship trophy. The Lancers kept that hope alive for most of four quarters, but ultimately fell a play or two short.
Bowman Academy’s Justin King and Davon Dillard cooly converted a pair of one-and-ones in the game’s final stretch, and LaVille couldn’t find the big bucket it needed as the Eagles held off the Lancers, 65-58 in a nip-tuck Judson Regional semifinal Saturday morning.

CMA wins two state titles
Culver Military Academy walked away from the state hockey tournament with championships in both the Class 5A and Class 3A divisions Saturday at the Compton Family Ice Arena at Notre Dame.
The CMA varsity A won the 5A title with a 5-2 victory over South Bend St. Joseph and the Eagles varsity B took the Class 3A crown with a 4-1 win over Fort Wayne Carroll.
It was the third straight Class 5A title for CMA, but the first time the school has won two state titles in the five class tournament.

Texting while driving illegal, tough to enforce

March 11, 2013

MARSHALL CO. — Texting while driving has been illegal in Indiana since 2011. But will police actually pull you over if they see you looking at your phone behind the wheel?
Plymouth Police Chief Dave Bacon said it’s possible — but the law is a tough one for his officers to enforce.
“The way the current law is written, it’s for text messaging and emailing (on a mobile device),” said Bacon. “Well, people could be looking at a map online. Will we stop them? Yes, we will stop them. But I don’t think the law is highly enforced the way it’s written now.”
